This article focuses on intellectuals confronted with dictatorial powers in Sylvain Bemba's fiction. They are not indecent, coddled, pampered or stuffed with money, but enlightened minds of integrity and probity, with an independent spirit of scientific analysis and criticism. They take a keen interest in the issues of the city, and unfailingly carry out their mission, even if the distrust of those in power exposes them to suspicion, denunciation, imprisonment, exclusion or even exile. Through their greatness of spirit and lucidity, they become models or examples for society.
